The Falcon’s Nest

Pravcicka Brana

If you’re in or around Prague and fancy a bit of a hike, you may be pointed to the Falcon’s Nest and the stone archway that is the largest natural stone archway on the European continent. Here are eight things to ignore while you make your way along the 4.5 km trek through the forest.

  1. Ignore the small piles of pebbles that kids have organised along the route. Don’t get into the habit of thinking that this is a secret symbol that marks territory, Twilight-style.

  • Ignore the bare-chested hunks who are trying to pretend that they took their top off just because it’s hot but are actually pleased to be able to make everyone else feel inadequate.
  • Ignore the fact that, instead of soil, there is sand underfoot, generated by the local rock which is mainly sandstone. it makes the walk more tiresome. Though it may seem like walking on a beach, flip-flops are not recommended either.
  • Ignore the bare-chested hairy slobs who look as if they’re wearing a fur coat until you get close enough and realise that it’s them.
  • Ignore the sprightly geriatrics who look as if they’re eighty and yet are taking a walk up a mountain in their stride, making the wheezing and sweaty blur that is you looking rather pathetic.
  • Ignore the signs that tell you that you’re only 500m from the top. After a further 10 min trek, you’ll see another sign telling you that you’re 600m from the top.
  • Ignore the kids who have been forced to make the trek by their well-meaning parents who in turn aren’t complaining because they’re looking forward to having kids that are too tired to do much once they all get home.
  • Most of all, ignore the fifty-something man who has decided to remove his baseball cap and somehow attach it to his belt buckle making it flap about as he walks like a long, green, felt covered penis with “NYC” tattooed on it.

Ignore these things and don’t let them get to you because at the top, the view is worth it. Click on any image below to see the detail and display them in full screen:
