Southern Europe is characterised by the Mediterranean Sea, and images of summer, sand, and siesta come to mind when I think of “Southern Europe.” From the Greeks to the Romans and every naval power before and since, the story of the islands, the peninsulas and the sea is tainted by the salty-flavour of the Mediterranean.
